Llorente on gambling: It takes little to ruin a career

In an exclusive interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, former Juventus striker Fernando Llorente has commented on the recent betting scandal that has swept across Italian football.

The scandal has seen a number of players enmeshed, including Paul Pogba, a former teammate of Llorente at Juventus.

Discussing the situation, Llorente said, “With regard to Paul, I’m very sorry for what happened to him. He’s a really good guy.”

He also expressed his deep regret over the recent suspension of young Juventus player Nicolo Fagioli due to the same scandal.

He said, “And what a tragedy the betting case and Fagioli’s disqualification is. There are so many meetings where it is explained that betting on football is forbidden. And yet…It takes so little to ruin a career.”

These recent controversies underline continuing challenges within the world of football, where illegal betting remains an issue despite ongoing efforts to outlaw such practices.
