Premier League: Here’s how Boxing Day unfolded

The traditional Boxing Day round of Premier League fixtures saw Liverpool defeat Burnley to move to the top of the league, pending Arsenal’s match on Thursday. Newcastle United suffered a surprise defeat against Nottingham Forest, to the dismay of their legion of supporters. Manchester United’s clash with Aston Villa concluded the matchday proceedings.

In a dramatic fixture, Nottingham Forest overcame Newcastle United 3-1 with goals netted by Isak at 23′, and Wood finding the back of the net in the 45’+1, 53′, and 60′ minutes of the game.

Sheffield United were beaten 2-3 by Luton in another gripping encounter. Doughty scored for Sheffield in the 17′ minute, followed by McBurnie in the 61′. However, Luton turned the tides with Ahmedhodzic scoring in the 69′, followed by goals from Robinson and Slimane.

Bournemouth enjoyed a comfortable 3-0 victory over Fulham. Kluivert opened the scoring in the 44′ minute, complemented by a goal from Solanke just after the hour mark and Sinisterra wrapping up the win in the final moments of the match.

Burnley, on the other hand, succumbed 0-2 to Liverpool, with Darwin Nunez tucking away a goal six minutes into the game and Jota sealing the win in the 90′ minute. The victory confirmed Liverpool’s position as the Premier League table leaders, as the fans eagerly await the Arsenal showdown on Thursday.
