Romagnoli of Lazio: We need to climb, not be mid-table

Lazio defender Alessio Romagnoli, speaking at the club’s Christmas dinner, stressed the need for the team to improve its performance in the present season. Speaking to DAZN on the occasion, he raised concerns about the team’s current standing in the League.

Romagnoli explained, “We absolutely need to do better. We didn’t start well. We’re in a particular situation right now.” He expressed his disappointment over the points dropped against teams which he feels were more approachable on paper.

“We need to climb up,” Romagnoli continued. “We’re not an 11th place team.” He also commented on Lazio’s recent game against Inter Milan, which he watched from the stands. “I saw a good match, especially in the first half. It was difficult against a difficult team. Yesterday wasn’t the problem – it was before then.”

Romagnoli also responded to criticism about the way Lazio defends. He defended Coach Sarri’s strategy, saying the team always defends the same way. There are moments, he conceded, when the team lacked aggression, but he reiterated that there has been no change in how they defend.

On a personal note, Romagnoli is looking forward to returning to the squad and hopefully getting a call-up for Friday’s game. When asked about the team’s chances against Bayern Munich, he said, “In football, never say never. We will fight till the end.”

He praised the impact of Milinkovic and his dynamic, physical play, saying that he contributes greatly to the team’s performance. But he also noted, “Last year we did something important, with 21 clean sheets. We must improve.”

Romagnoli’s message is clear: the desire for improvement is strong, the belief in their defending strategy is unwavering, and, above all, they are ready to face the challenges that the rest of the season brings.
