Roma, Settlement Reached Over Mourinho’s Comments on Marcenaro

AS Roma has chosen to settle with the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) over comments by club manager Jose Mourinho about referee Marcenaro and Domenico Berardi. The club announced they’ve reached an agreement and will consequently pay a fine of €40,000. In a goodwill gesture, the proceeds of this fine will be donated entirely to AIL, the Italian Leukemia Association.

In a statement from the club, they revealed that “AS Roma, represented by its CEO and its Football General Manager, along with its technical manager, José Mourinho,” chose to take this step subsequent to Mourinho’s comments in the pre-match of the Sassuolo-Roma game and the ensuing investigation by FIGC procedurals.

AS Roma, through this statement, reinforces the sentiments expressed earlier by Director Tiago Pinto and Mourinho himself, showing the “utmost respect and the utmost cooperation towards the Federal Institutions and the AIA”.

Taking this cooperative stance further, both the club and Mourinho have decided to “accept on a consensual basis, the imposition of a financial penalty” after careful assessment by the Federal Prosecutor. This penalty will be donated to AIL as part of the club’s philanthropy towards those in need.
