Sorrentino: Thanks to Juric, Torino has become a challenging opponent for all

Former Torino goalkeeper, Stefano Sorrentino, has provided his analysis on the current situation of the team under the guidance of coach Ivan Juric in an interview with Corriere della Sera.

Sorrentino praised Juric’s decision to rest Vanja Milinkovic-Savic in recent games, citing that the goalkeeper had played many matches between national representation and Torino. Sorrentino added, “The choice to let him rest was sensible. He needed a round-off to start even stronger. In modern football, a change between goalkeepers is increasingly widespread compared to recent years. I would not be surprised if Juric thought about other changes in the future.”

Addressing the seven clean sheets achieved by the team, Sorrentino said that while a combination of both the team’s and Vanja’s effort played a part, “70% of it is Vanja’s merit”. He also came in defence of the Serbian goalkeeper despite the criticisms, asserting that, “he is proving on the field his ability to improve year after year. In single matches, mistakes can always happen. Whoever is inside can make mistakes.”

Sorrentino also discussed the return of young goalkeeper Gemello. He advised, “He needs to work even harder than before, he’s a young and talented goalkeeper. This setback will also serve him in the future. But I advised him to go play on loan: a mistake like the one in Bologna is caused by inexperience.”

Highlighting Juric’s substantial contribution to Torino, Sorrentino acknowledged his 100th bench at the club as a significant milestone. From his arrival, Juric had raised the level of Torino after a biennial of difficulties. He said, “With him, Torino has become a complicated opponent for everyone. That was what was asked of him. In terms of results, the team has consistently achieved a position on the left side of the table. Juric has given a lot to Torino, and vice versa.”
