Greece: League President resigns amidst stadium violence

Greek Super League president, Vangelis Marinakis, has officially announced his resignation in a letter. The statement comes following the decision to play all league matches behind closed doors until 12th February amid mounting fan violence.

In his resignation letter, Marinakis is quoted as saying, “I have neither the time nor the desire to continue to be involved in the management of the championship as the words of certain members of the board are not consistent with their actions.”

Though short, Marinakis’s statement appears to suggest an atmosphere of disagreement and discord within the league’s managing board – a sentiment that could have ultimately fuelled his decision to part ways.
