Violence in stadiums: Greece shuts down venues until February 12

Greece is grappling with a historical issue of violence in stadiums, compelling the Greek government to take stringent measures to curb the unrest.

In an effort to control the situation, all football matches in the Greek League will be played behind closed doors until 12 February. The statement originates from government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis. But the move will not be limited to football alone, extending also to basketball and volleyball matches.

This decision is a response to a violent incident which took place during a volleyball match last week. A police officer was severely injured during the clashes which played a major role in encouraging the government to implement this measure.
